It's no secret Hera, Queen of the Gods, is a wicked diva but she has a special kind of hate for Hercules. This time, she’s gone too far, robbing Hercules of his only reason to live. That is until Apollo, the golden boy of Olympus convinces Hercules that hope is as mighty a weapon as any. From cursed kingdoms and mythical creatures to enchanted isles guarded by fire-breathing dragons, the journey is fraught with peril. And let's not forget Hera—she will stop at nothing to see Hercules fail, even making a deal with Hades, King of the Underworld. Hercules has his loyal friends by his side but he can survive long enough to complete the Twelve Labors before the winter solstice and end Hera's reign of vengeance once and for all?

This lesson plan outlines activities for exploring Greek mythology through the lens of Hercules. Students will create a family tree for Hercules, compare mythical creatures before and after their encounters with Hercules, design a map of Hercules and Apollo's travels, and develop a character profile for one of Hercules's sidekicks. The objective is for students to understand key elements of Greek mythology and storytelling techniques.
